Welcome to Debates and Perspectives from Global South (DPGS)

Who am I?

I’m Inayat Ali, a medical anthropologist. I have done my undergrade in Economics/Sociology, Masters/MPhil in Anthropology, and PhD in Medical Anthropology and Public Health. Currently, I am Incharge/Assistant Professor of Department of Public Health and Allied Sciences at Fatima Jinnah Women University, Pakistan. Also, I’m a Research Fellow at the Department of Social And Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna, Austria.

My theoretical orientation is Critical Medical Anthropology (e.g., structural violence, syndemics); and thematic focus is on health and illness while geographical focus is Global South, mainly Pakistan.

I’m lead editor Negotiating the Pandemic: Cultural, National, and Individual Constructions of COVID-19 published by Routledge in 2022. And I am also authoring four more books with Routledge: three will be out in 2023, and one in 2024.

In this newsletter, you will read most of the posts in the above-mentioned domain. The posts would be mainly in English, but these will also be translated into Urdu and Sindhi.

The Purpose

And I write this newsletter at night. Sometimes, you might also read some vignettes from my daily dairy though most of the content would be academic based on my theoretical, thematic and geographical focus.

Stay up-to-date

Mostly, new posts will be on every Saturday and Sunday.

You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.

Glad to have you here!

Thank you very much for supporting the research-based perspectives from Global South. It’s needed now more than ever.

Inayat
